Ciao Everyone =)
Just wanted to share with you a typical dish you will find if and when you ever come to Sicily! It’s called Scacce and very typical of the town where I live. Scacce is dough that you run through a pasta maker to get it paper thin and then fill with yummy ingredients.
Some typical combinations:
-Ricotta, parsley and sausage (my favorite)
-Tomato sauce, parsley and onions
-Eggplant, tomato sauce, parley and onions
You could really put whatever you like inside, really. Here is Sicily though, women are very traditional so they don’t deviate much on the fillings. When these yummies comes out of the oven, or wood fire oven (to die for!) they are really delicious. Making Scacce is a time consuming process and so I leave it to my mother in law to make for us since she makes them better than I could ever anyway….just look at that picture of her Scacce!
So when is Sicily, be sure to try some Scacce, you won’t be disappointed!
Buon Appetito,
Wanita =)
P.S. If you would like to actually try making authentic scacce, my mother-in-law gave me her recipe, which I’ve included in my new e-book, so be sure to check it out!

I’m a passionate about cooking and I grew up in a little town near Comiso called Acate , I left Sicily 7 years ago and I was so young that’s why I have never learnt many of the excellent typical recipes of my area and Scacce are one of them. Thank you very much , your blog is taking me back to my childhood =)
Ciao Grazia =) Piacere, sono Wanita! I’m so happy you are enjoying the blog. Yes, Acate is not too far from us (we live in Modica) Be sure to follow my recipes as I’m sure many will remind you of back home and you can learn to make them easily enough. Buona giornata!
Hi Wanita, I was born and raised in Modica and moved to NYC a few years ago. Here I can find most of Italian products and dishes, but not scacce :(… I would like to ask you which store-bought dough you’d use to make scacce… I’m not sure if I can make it myself, but I was just wondering if there is some sort of “trick” to just avoid the dough making part and just do the filling and cooking Thank you!
Ciao Manuela! Abitiamo a Modica..la citta piu bella della provincia! =) Hmmmm, I’ve never used store bought dough, so I’m not sure what to recommend. I would just try it and see what happens….I don’t think the taste would change drastically =)
