As the first post of my new series, Eye on Sicily – Local Businesses Tried and True For Travelers, let me introduce you to a terrific shuttle service! For those of you who don’t know what this series is all about, here I try to provide you with names of local businesses and agencies and can be of benefit to tourists and travelers =) Of course I’m aware that there are already lots of commentaries on the Internet that you’ll find to help you plan your visit. However, living here in Sicily, I try to provide you with as much information as I can from a local perspective. These businesses are ones I’ve personally been to, tried, or know first hand =) So let’s begin!

Now, how would you like to be taken by shuttle to any destination point in Sicily for only 1 euro a kilometer? This small business, TaxiAutonoleggio di Walter Domini, offers a terrific service that many tourists are taking advantage of. Why? Because sometimes it’s just so much easier to have someone takes us straight to the attractions rather than spending excess time reading bus signs, asking for directions, etc….leave that for when you are AT the attraction spot! =) =) Here is what the owner, Walter, says about his business, “We are a recently established company with a lot of experience and professionalism behind us. Indeed, we have worked in the tourism industry for many years and have a good understanding of the expectations of those who travel. Vacation is a time of relaxation and leisure, so our aim is to get you to your destination in the most comfortable and relaxing way possible. The shuttle service is personally performed by the owner.” …..personally performed by the owner!

4) Air conditioned shuttle service with 6 seats and ample baggage space.

5) Multi-lingual driver: Fluent Italian and Spanish, along with basic English.

6) Fully licensed

Now, I asked the Walter about the prices of the airport transfers as I know from myself that’s something I always need when arriving LATE at night to my destination. He indicated that from the province of Ragusa to Catania International Airport (1 1\2  hours away)  it’s only €90 each way for up to 6 people (…at the time of this writing).  So imagine if you have a family you can all get to your hotel for €90 each way! (…..Back in 2006, My parents and I reserved a shuttle from Rome’s International Airport to our hotel (only a 20 minute drive) and we paid about €50 each way for 3 of us!….) Needless to say, it’s more than a fair price considering the distance and number of people included in the rate.

Another great thing is that they are willing to go ANYWHERE in Sicily! Most companies have a territorial limit or route they cover. Not this one. You tell them where you want to go, at what time, and when to pick you up….sweet huh?
